Winter Jam Concert Saturday

Just a reminder that the Winter Jam concert is this coming Saturday, January 7. We will meet at the church at 1:00 PM to eat lunch together, and then travel to the RBC Center for an outstanding concert. Please bring $10 for admission and extra money if you plan to eat a snack or buy a souvenir. We plan to be back at Tippett's around 11:00 PM.

New Year On Its Way

Wow! It's hard to believe that 2011 has already gone and 2012 is peeking around the corner. It has been a great year filled with many exciting opportunities for Tippett's Chapel Youth. We have seen some wonderful growth in each and every young person within our group.

I am excited as we head into a new year and the possibilities that lie ahead.

S.E.W & Reap 2010

We had a great weekend of S.E.W. & Reap. We had a total of 14 people come for this exciting weekend of fellowship and service. We were able to attend the Judgment House at First Pentecostal Church in Goldsboro on Friday night, and then came back to our church for a time of devotion, games, a movie and sleep. Yes! Sleep! Everyone was geared up for a great weekend and I believe the Lord worked in and through us just as we asked Him to.

Hello everyone, just wanted to take a moment to say Happy Thanksgiving! As we all know life is very busy and we don't always get the opportunity to take a moment to look at what is happening in the world around us. I just wanted to make you aware a couple of great web sites for you to follow in order to stay current with the trends that your student is being faced with each day.

1. www.Summit.org - this is a web site directed by Bryan College, out of Tennessee, that conducts several conferences around the world each year dealing with cultural trends and also developing a biblical worldview. Mrs. Michaellynn and I recently met one of the teaching staff from Bryan, Ben Williams. Ben is on the worldview development team and serves as a traveling corespondent for the school and also Summit Ministries.

2. www.CPYU.org - This is a site directed to parents allowing them to stay current on the trends of culture within our world today.

A message from CPYU Founder and President, Walt Mueller:

"For over thirty years I have worked with teenagers and their parents. During that time I have realized there is a widening cultural-generational gap that needs to be closed. On one side stand parents and adults, many puzzled and scared by the rapidly changing world of children and teens. One father asked me, 'How will my son ever hear the still small voice of God with all those other voices yelling in his ears?'On the other side stand children and teens longing for parents and other significant adults willing and able to help them through the confusing maze of today's youth culture, leading them to an emotionally and spiritually healthy adulthood.I'm convinced it's a gap nobody wants. If we take the time to understand and really know kids, then we'll be able to cross into their culture, close the gap, and give them the Biblical answers and positive direction they so desperately need! Above all I believe it is our duty as parents to know what is going on with our students. This is not going to be an easy task but if you are willing to take a couple of minutes a week and do a little research, I believe the lines of communication can be open for you and your student. You can remember what it was like being a teenager during the era of your life, how would you have felt if your parents had taken more time to know what you and your culture were all about? Take the time to get to know them better.

S.E.W & Reap Back Again

It's already November and we are looking forward to our upcoming weekend of S.E.W & Reap. For 3 years now we have come together as a youth group committed to serving Christ and our community. This year we are glad to announce that we will once again be serving our Clayton community by serving at the House of Hope. House of Hope opened in March of 1998 as a Christian therapeutic school, home, and counseling center for hurting and troubled girls, ages 12-17. They have an intensive program offering Christian education and counseling for girls and their families regardless of their financial situation. Their mission is to Build Hope, Change Lives and Restore families through the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

We are planning to be doing some yard work for them and also be power washing a building on their campus.

The weekend schedule will be as follows:

Friday @

6:00 pm - Meet at the church

6:25 pm - Travel to Goldsboro, NC to see Judgment House and eat supper

9:30 pm - 10:00 pm - Arrive back at Tippett's for a time of games, fellowship.

12:30 am - Time for bed (we will be staying at church for the evening)

Saturday @

8:00 am - rise and shine/ breakfast

9:00 am - travel to House of Hope

11:30 am - Lunch

1:00 pm - back to work @ House of Hope (if not finished)

2:30 pm - rake leaves and move material @ graveyard

4:00 pm - back at Tippett's (done for day)

Your student will need about $20 for two meals and we will provide breakfast for Saturday morning.

S.E.W & Reap 2008, What a Success! Part 1

What can we say? S.E.W. & Reap 2008 was great! We had fun, fellowship, food, and we especially were able to do some much needed work around the church. Well, I know, we were planning to go and help our community, but when we woke up on Saturday it was raining cats and dogs. So we decided to take the opportunity for us to share a little love with our church family. We cleaned closets, the preschool building and the storage building. Everyone worked especially hard with their task to make the day a total success. I am very proud of each and everyone that came out and participated with us during this weekend.

Brad did an excellent job with the devotion, and we enjoyed having he and Kasey be with us. We were also able to go to Garner FWB and walk through their Rapture House. It was great.

Needless to say though, we are going to have to reschedule our community outreach project. Hopefully we will be able to come up with a firm date. Here are a few pics from the weekend

S.E.W & Reap 2008 Committed to Serve

For three years now the Teens at Tippett's have been hosting a weekend in which they come together to specifically go and help those in our church and those associated with our church family with chores around their house. Once again this opportunity is upon us. This year will be a little different though. Our focus this year in not on our OWN people but the people within our own community. This years theme, Committed To Serve, is a reminder to us that we not only need to care for those within our family but to reach beyond ourselves. Taking a little hope and service in our community is what we need to be about. The church not only was created to serve its own, but it also is to serve as a stepping stone for us to reach out to those who need it the most, the lost and dying world.

This Friday night, November 7, the teens will come together for a time of fellowship, devotion, and fun, as we prepare to go and serve the Tippett's community. We will meet at the church at 6:00 pm to go eat supper and then return to the church for a time of singing, group activities and especially a challenge from the Word of God. We are pleased to welcome Brad Perry, the student minister at Peace Church in Wilson, and his wife Kasey, who will be joining us for this event.

Each student will need to bring money for supper on Friday, and if they plan to stay the night, a sleeping bag (or blanket, pillow), modest PJ's, and work clothes for Saturday. We will plan to be done by 5 PM on Saturday. Be sure to have your Student Medical Form filled out for this event.

Tonight! And a few announcements.

Hello everyone, I hope that you are having a good week. Just a reminder that we continue our study in 2 Timothy tonight. Also, we will be discussing our upcoming weekend activities.

Here is a little information about all that we have going on this weekend. Saturday, we will be having a workday. We will meet at the church at 8:30 and go get some breakfast. We will be working at a school in Raleigh cleaning, rearranging, painting and doing a little landscaping. We should be done around 3:00 pm and back to the church around 4:00 pm. Lunch is provided and we will have some light snacks as well. You will need to carry some money for breakfast if you choose to eat with us. Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty or even messed up.

Sunday we are planning to attend the See You At the Pole rally @ Cleveland Community Church in Clayton. We will be leaving the church at 4:20 Sunday afternoon and returning around 9:00 Sunday night. (It may actually be sooner. I am allowing time for us to stop and get supper afterwards). You will need to carry a little money for supper. Please dress appropriately for this event.

Kick-Off Party moved to Wednesday the 20th

Hey everyone, I hope that you are enjoying the last few days of summer. I just wanted to invite you and your parents to our Kick-Off party and planning event on Wednesday August 13th. We will meet in the teen room and have a time of food, fellowship and of course an overview of the upcoming year. I will be sending out a letter to all the families and to those who are going to be joining us this year in the teen department. I am excited about the upcoming year. Please pray that this year will be a profitable year for us. I am praying for each of you and hope that you are ready for what the Lord has in store for us.

Going to the Nationals

I remember as a little kid thinking about what the summer was going to be like. There was always camp, cookouts, having friends over, and especially the Nationals. It was always the coolest thing to be able to go to different states each year and be with our family, who lived in many different areas, and be apart of what our association held each year. All kinds of people from different cities and towns would come and bring folks from their own churches to compete in NYC (National Youth Conference), or they would just come to fellowship. One of my best memories about the Nationals would be my 6th grade year. We attended the Nationals in Tampa FL. My best friend was able to come with me that year, and needless to say we had a ball. My cousins would all come from Decatur Ill, and so with me, my best friend and my two cousins in tow we set out to see what Tampa was made of. At least we thought so at 11 years of age. My cousins always competed in the NYC so we would make our way from competition to competition seeing what everyone was doing. It was always the neatest thing to see all of the groups and instrumentalists getting prepared to perform what they had practiced so diligently throughout the year.

Not much has changed since then for me. The Nationals is still the best part of summer. We still get together with our family and have a wonderful time. Kids from all over the U.S. come to compete. It's always an adventure seeing what has changed since the last time we were in a particular city. And most of all, it's great to be with all the other folks you have met and loved for so many years.

This year is no different. We are heading to Charleston WV in a couple of days for our National Association of Free Will Baptists. The one thing that is different for me though is for the first time since I have been at Tippett's we have other people going from our church to be apart of the convention. We have some of our own children and teens competing in NYC. Please be in prayer for them as they travel and compete, and that the Lord would bless us as we are in West Virginia.

"Fear! The Ultimate Motivator"

I'm sure if you have been around me long enough you know the phrase, "Fear is a great motivator." The funny thing about fear is that it does seem to bring up in us the need to act more aggressively than what is in our nature. Take for instance an episode of "Lost". I am in no way trying to persuade you to watch the show, but for an object lesson it serves as a good example.

On one of the first episodes a couple of the passengers meet in a particularly odd way. One of them is a doctor and the other a fugitive, unknown to the doctor. As you may well assume they are both banged up pretty badly from the wreck and the doctor has attempted to stitch up a wound on his own person that is located toward the middle of his back. The fugitive, a lady, comes across this scene with much dismay. After some persuasion she agrees to finish the task. As they are there fixing the wound they strike up a conversation about what and who they are. At least the doctor divulges about his occupation. During their conversation the doctor starts to tell about an instance where fear overtook him so greatly that he wanted to run out of the operating room, but he knew that would not be a wise choice. As he tells the story, fear visibly returns in his face, but as he explains, he would only allow it to come in for 5 seconds then he would have to take care of the situation. He starts counting and after getting to "5" the fear is gone. Later in the episode the lady is faced with a great fear and after following the suggestion of the doctor, counting to 5, she runs for her life.

Now, I'm not suggesting that in every situation that we count to "5", but I do think that in some instances that decisions must be made in a very small time frame.

The children of Israel were overtaken in fear of the Canaanites when they sent out the spies to give a report of the inhabitants of the promised land. Although the majority were against going in and overtaking them, there were two who knew that through God's power they could do it. (Numbers 14:1-10, 26-33) The Israelites allowed their fear to get the better of them to the point they wished they could return to slavery in Egypt. How disappointing it must have been for the two spies that said, "We can do this."

Has fear ever gotten the best of you? Have you ever come to the point in a situation that you let the wonder of the unknown win? I know I have. God promises us though that He will give us strength in time of need. We have to allow Him to be our guide, and no matter what the situation give it to Him and let Him lead, even through fear.

Obedience! Part 1

Have you ever wondered why so many times Jesus would have to perform miracles for even his own disciples. In our Monday and Tuesday edition of this weeks study on Obedience, we see where on two separate occasions the Lord was having to calm their nerves by performing a miracle related to making the seas (water) obey him. Weren't they the ones who were helping him evangelize? Weren't they the ones who dropped everything to follow him? Being so close to the source of salvation wouldn't you think that the disciples would have had everything figured out? Not on your life. They struggled just as you and I do. They saw their salvation, talked with him, walked with him, spent numerous hours with him and yet they had issues. And boy did they ever have Issues!

In Luke 8:25 Jesus even asks them, "Where is your faith?" (NKJV) Have you ever wondered to yourself that very same question? I know I certainly have. I have gone through life, on several occasions, playing the "I" game. I can do this, I don't need help, while all the time if I would have obeyed the voice of the Lord it would have gone so much better. What is it that you struggle with the most about obedience? Is it authority, influence of friends, or simply lack of faith. I trust that you will lay aside the "I" game and let the Lord direct you where he wants you to go.

Is There Truly Purpose in Everything?

Have you ever wondered why God created mosquitoes? Or why there are plants that are poisonous? What was He thinking when he created a gnat? Or what in the world is a blow fish for anyway? As you probably read this you might say, "Mr. Bryan has too much time on his hands." Well, the fact is that everyday I think about the importance of things. Many of which we all take for granted. Running water, a place to call home, a pillow, a blanket, and of course God's Word.

This week I hope you have been able to read a few passages that are related to what we will be talking about on Sunday morning. If you haven't take a look at the following passages: (1 Kings 11:1-13; Ecclesiastes 1:1-11; 12:9-14)

In these passages we are looking still at the life of King Solomon. Solomon, as we have found out, was a great king because of his willingness to search for wisdom. But over time as his desire for God became a desire to be loved drove his heart far away from God. As we see in these passages that Solomon had many wives from other countries, and this was in direct disobedience to what God had told him. Solomon wouldn't listen to God this time and through his disobedience he would end up losing the kingly line later after he was gone.

Solomon was turned away because of his lack of obedience. What are you chasing after? Is it God, fame, money, the list could go on. Are your motives pure? Are they set on godly principles?

Ecclesiastes 12:13 tells us, "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." We are given two direct commands in this verse. Fear God: what is truly "Fear of God"? The second, "Keep His Commands." Neither of these pull any punches in refection to what we are called to do. So why is it so hard for us to follow these commands? I believe that it comes from a heart not totally sold out to God.

Our fear of God shows through in every day life, and if we truly follow His commands then we can have peace in knowing the God IS IN CONTROL!

Where in the world did April go? Can you believe that we have almost reached the halfway point of 2008? Oh well, so we have to say goodbye to the past and keep moving forward. (Got that from Meet the Robinsons) Well, we have just one more study on Angels coming up this next Wednesday. I wanted to get some feedback from you all on your thoughts of our study on angels. Just drop me a line either by making a comment on the blog or you can email me at tippettsyouth@earthlink.net.

Summer time is right around the corner and we are going to be joining the adults through the summer for a family study. Pastor Eddie, Jackson and I are getting together to discuss some topics for the family. More information to come.

Don't forget that next Sunday, May 11th, is the deadline for signing up for camp. Senior High week is June 9 through the 14th, and Junior High week is June 15 through the 19th. I hope that some of you will be able to go to camp this year. I know that it will be an exciting time for everybody.

Also, don't forget that Vacation Bible School is June 23rd through the 26th. We can use your help this year in many different areas. Just let me or Mrs. Sue Romano know if you would be willing to work.

Michaellynn and I are praying for you that as the end of the school year get close that you would finish strong and do your best.

Wow! Can you say sore? After making our initial trek up to Hanging Rock within 2 hours of reaching camp we were ready for a great couple of days of hiking. We couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather on Thursday and Friday. Saturday morning was a little wet, but we made it through. The girls were ruthless though. I must say that I am very proud of how they did this whole trip. I will be taking them back again. Despite the slight picking on of some of our male members I believe they were impressed as well at how well the girls did on this trip. And don't worry Jared, it was all in fun.

Friday we woke up to the smell of eggs, bacon and sausage (with a little deer sausage mixed in, sorry Sarah), cooked over a campfire. Yes, Mr. Jason is the next Top Campfire Chef! I didn't know that you could gain weight and hike too! That is amazing. After breakfast we headed up to the tower, or more commonly known as Moore's Nob. We stayed there for just a little while and then decided that we were going to take some trails that we hadn't been on before. I must say though we probably won't be on them ever again! After an eventful journey back, Mrs. Angela cooked some homemade chicken and rice soup and we ate yet again.

Friday night the winds picked up a little and as we woke up on Saturday we knew why. There was a storm on the way. After a couple of hours of scattered rain and T-storms we finally ate breakfast. Pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon this time. Wow! what a feast. We had a great time and we all look forward to returning next year to do it again. It will take that long to catch up on our sleep and our muscles to quit throbbing! I believe in total we hiked about 8.5 miles (up and down mountains) pretty good if you ask me.

SPUR58 led the worship tonight and Shaun Blakeney was awesome bringing us the message from God's Word! He really knows how to bring to life what we already know but sometimes allow ourselves to forget so easily. We had a concert with Jeremy Riddle and I must say it was a pretty awesome time. Colton just wanted to remind me to say hello to his mommy! We are doing great! Eating some pizza at 11:15 pm, but what can be better than heartburn at midnight?!? Anyway, here are a few pics from the day!
